The Role of the Government Chief Information Officer (GCIO)

The role or Terms of Reference of GCIO Malaysia are as follows:

1. Leading Change through Alignment of the Public Sector ICT Strategic Plan (ISP) with the needs of the Plan
National Development

    a) Driving Public Sector ICT Strategic Planning;
and
b) Strengthening Public Sector ICT governance.

2. Leader in Strengthening Global Policies, Standards and Best Practices

    a) Driving the adoption of Enterprise Architecture (EA) in the Public Sector;
    b) Drive the appropriateness of regulations/policies/standards/best practices in the implementation of Electronic Government; and
    c) Drive the implementation of ICT shared services in the Public Sector.

3. Leading the Promotion of ICT Acculturation in the Sector Service Delivery System
Public.

     a) Driving the direction of alignment of Public Sector ICT programs.

4. Leading Innovation through Electronic Government Applications, ICT Infrastructure and Security

     a) Identify new generation services;
and
b) Drive information sharing towards cross-agency services.
