In summary, the Data Sharing Bill (RUU Perkongsian Data) provides a clear legal mandate to regulate and enforce laws related to data sharing, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of implementing agencies’ functions. This aims to ensure that data sharing is conducted securely and effectively, in line with the nation’s aspiration to boost the digital economy.
The Data Sharing Bill enables more efficient management and regulation of data sharing activities through the involvement of all relevant stakeholders. The establishment of a regulatory agency and the National Data Sharing Committee is a step toward creating a more systematic and focused governance structure within the data sharing ecosystem.
The 2024 Data Sharing Bill is timely in creating a secure data-sharing ecosystem that builds public trust through transparent communication, enabling safe and effective data sharing and supporting the acceleration of the national digitalisation agenda.
Overall, through the 2024 Data Sharing Bill, data sharing can be enhanced in line with international legal standards, thereby increasing public confidence in the Government of Malaysia. It is hoped that this will also attract greater foreign investment, improve competitiveness, and support the growth of digital business and the economy towards achieving high-income nation status.
